Welcome to the future home of the Medicine Mound Museum's research galleries ! In the coming months, the content will be rapidly evolving from a simple web page into a very complex, shared database-driven content management system.

Web design genius Larry Davis of e-3 Design has graciously offered to assist us with this highly technical venture that will soon connect us with students, researchers, and scholars from around the United States and the world.

With adequate funding and technical assistance from the University of North Texas and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, the staff of the Medicine Mound Museum will begin to "digitize" (scan and restore) the hundreds of photos and artifacts in our collections. Over the next two years, we intend to construct a unique, web-based interface that will become a model for other museums and institutions to emulate - a searchable database of imagery complete with metadata and background information on each image or artifact to be shared with others through a common digital gateway - the Portal To Texas History.

Not only will our members and visitors be able to view photos of frontier families and the lives of ordinary, rural Texans - they'll be able to glean important research data (like genealogy info) from each image or artifact, greatly enhancing their learning experience. It's one thing to see a picture of a frontier family, but it's quite another to learn their names, where they lived, or their place in rural society. And all of this will be shared with the world through the magic of the World Wide Web.

Thanks to Marian Miller of Katy, TX for sending the wonderful photo above - the baby in the arms of the couple on the left was the first child to be born in the little village of Medicine Mound. This picture is being digitized and restored so that we might share it with the world in greater detail. If you happen to know any of the folks in this photo, please contact us ! Stay tuned to the web site as we work toward our mission of "Preserving Texas History Through Education."
