Help Us Preserve Rural History ! (Yes, You!)

Cole store facade

The years have not been very kind to the old Cole building, as you can see in the photo above. The site of the original "strip mall" concept once housed the village bank, post office, gas station, and served as a gathering spot for many locals. The walls of these unique buildings were constructed of granite rocks hauled in by mule train from the nearby Ouchita Mountains in Oklahoma in the early 1930's. While the walls may be structurally sound, it will take a great deal of money and work to rehabilitate this building. Eventually, our group envisions this building converted to a multi-use facility for our visitors. Our first priority, however, is making it habitable once again. Use the links below or at left to find out the many different ways you can help.

Donations

The Downtown Medicine Mound Preservation Group is dependent on your donations to further our vision. Running any museum is a complex affair - neither easy nor inexpensive. Your donation is tax-deductible, and very donation - small or large - will be acknowledged. Simply click on one of the "Donate" links at left to get started !

Volunteering

If you or someone you know has expertise in the areas of structural engineering, historic preservation, writing grant proposals, or just want to help us in some way, click here to learn more. We'd like to keep a list of ready volunteers as projects are developed, or you can always simply contact us to discuss ideas.

Fundraising

While the majority of our fundraising efforts are inititated via the World Wide Web and opt-in email campaigns, we may periodically hold local fundraisers at the Museum itself. If you'd like to stay informed of our latest efforts, please consider becoming a member of the Downtown Medicine Mound Preservation Group to stay informed - we'd love to have you join us !

Wish List

As a new and growing non-profit, The Downtown Medicine Preservation Group is in need of many things. If you'd prefer to donate something other than money or time or expertise, perhaps you'd consider purchasing something from our Wish List instead. To see a comprehensive list of items needed, simply click here.

Bidding

As the group evolves and projects are funded, we have set up a new section on the web site to assist those bidding on projects, goods, or services. This section presents specifications and other information about a project or service, with a link to online RFQ (Request For Quote) forms that may be filled out and submitted for consideration. The DMMPG does not discriminate on any basis, for any reason, and we welcome the opportunity to employ local artisans and contractors whenever possible. To check it all out, simply click here.
