Myna (Hicks) Potts (Founder/President) No
one person has done more to preserve the rural history of Medicine
Mound, TX than Myna. Over the years, Myna has collected hundreds of old
photos, period clothing, tools, books, letters, and even archeological items
from the Chief Quanah Parker era. Her passion for sharing all this
history is contagious, as evidenced by her ongoing operation of the
Medicine Mound Museum in what was once her father's general store.
Her expertise is frequently sought out by those in academia, and she
shares her knowledge willingly.
Dr. James L. Crowder (Secretary) A
certified museum curator and lifelong history aficionado, Dr. Crowder
also has family ties to the old community of Medicine Mound - his father
(James, Sr.) taught school there for many years. As the official military
historian at Tinker AFB, Dr. Crowder brings a wealth of knowledge and
procedural expertise to the Board that dovetails nicely with our group's
vision for the future. Dr. Crowder resides in nearby Edmond, Oklahoma,
and also devotes much of his time and expertise to church missions in
Zambia.
Mr. Bill Neal, Attorney At Law As
a long-time resident of Hardeman County, Bill Neal served as District
Attorney there for many years. Mr. Neal is an acclaimed novelist and the
foremost authority on the county's rich history. In addition to his considerable
legal skills, Bill is a great story teller and authored the definitive
book on Hardeman County history - " The
Last Frontier".
Bill has graciously accepted a position on our Board, and we are happy
to have his historical and legal expertise at our disposal. You can learn
more about Bill's works on his new web site - www.billnealonline.com !
Ms. Jeanene Stermer (Treasurer) is
a third generation Medicine Mound resident, living on the same farm previously
owned by her parents and paternal grandparents, and in continuous operation
for 99 years. Ms. Stermer has co-chaired the annual Medicine Mound Reunion,
and is actively reclaiming and restoring the site of the old Medicine
Mound cemetery. With professional expertise in banking, office management,
and accounting, Ms. Stermer is a welcome addition to the Board.
Dr. Monica Weiser-Wilkinson (Vice President) works
alongside her husband, Scott, near Bugscuffle, Texas on the same ranch
that has been in the family for four generations. She received her Bachelor's
degree in Agricultural Development from Texas A&M University
in 1996. She also gained her Master's degree in Tourism
Sciences and Cultural Anthropology from Texas A&M. Dr. Wilkinson then
earned her Doctorate in Geography from the University of Oklahoma. Her
extensive research examines the social implications of genetic engineering
technologies on small, rural farming communities in North Texas. Dr. Wilkinson
also works with the Electra Heritage Society's summer youth program
in Electra, Texas.
Ms. Ronda Brown grew up ranching
in eastern New Mexico, and once co-owned and operated the nearby Medicine
Mound Ranch until the mid-1980's. Her diverse interests have included
breeding exotic cattle, teaching art and judging art shows, and participating
in many community organizations and projects. She has attended Eastern
NM University, NM State University, Colorado State College (now UNC),
and West Texas State University on her way to earning her Master's degree
in Fine Art. Ms. Brown currently travels the southwest doing business
as Ronda Brown ReDesign, IADA RES.
