Grants We Intend To Seek

As part of our ongoing effort to kee p our supporters informed of our objectives, the Downtown Medicine Mound Preservation Group is posting information on grants that are under consideration for application. Why do we do this ? We want our members and supporters to know we are taking a proactive role in the development of the Medicine Mound Museum and related activities. While we may not get every grant applied for, at least you will know that we are working hard to stay on the forefront of collections management with an eye toward maximizing our guest's museum experience.

Institute of Museum and Library Services - "Conservation Assessment Program" : The Conservation Assessment Program (CAP) is supported through a cooperative agreement between the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Heritage Preservation. The program provides eligible museums with an overall general conservation assessment. Assessments are funded on a first-come, first-served basis. The program supports a two-day site visit by a conservation professional to perform the assessment and up to three days to write the report. For museums located in historic structures, the grant supports a two-day site visit by a preservation architect or an architectural conservator, and up to three days to write the report. As the preservation needs of a historic structure and the collections it contains often differ, this collaboration is vital to the assessment’s success. The deadline for application is December 1, 2008.

National Endowment For The Humanities - "Grants For Stabilizing Humanities Collections" : While the application deadline for 2007 has passed, the DMMPG intends to seek up to $650,000.00 in funding for 2008 to help us preserve our collections through improved housing and storage, climate control systems, environmental conditions, security, and fire protection systems. If you'd like to learn more about this grant in detail, we've provided a link to the full announcement.
