Over the years, Myna has
assembled a large collection of historic photographs,
many of which are currently on display at the
Medicine Mound Museum. As soon as funding becomes
available, one of our first priorities will be cataloguing,
restoring, and archiving the entire collection so
that the originals now on display might be safely
stored in a controlled environment to prevent further
deterioration.

To illustrate the
"magic" that is possible with the right
combination of computer hardware and software, look
carefully at the sample photos above. The original
picture was thought to be damaged beyond repair
- cracked, yellowed, and bent. Our digital restoration
specialist spent many hours bringing this pioneer
family back to life from the scanned original, and
it is now archived for future generations to enjoy.
In addition, we have now partnered with the Portal
To Texas History (hosted by the University
of North Texas Libraries) in a collaborative effort
to bring the collections of the Medicine Mound Museum
to the masses via a common gateway - the World Wide
Web. This Federally funded project is designed to
appeal to historians, students, and life-long learners
from around the globe, and we are proud to be affiliated
with this cutting-edge alliance of scholars and
historians.
This is why the items on our "Wish
List" page are
so important to our mission - the computers, large-format
scanners, and printers are vital to this project.
Each original photo must be scanned and painstakingly
restored in Adobe Photoshop using color-calibrated
computer monitors, and the final enlargement printed
using special Epson inks and paper which have
been tested for longevity in excess of 200 years.
These prints will then be matted and framed
for proper display in the museum environment,
while the digital files will allow students, scholars,
and researchers to enjoy our collections from
anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.
Imagine the possibilities !
