The Downtown Medicine
Mound Preservation Group is not a shadowy, behind-the-scenes
operation. We believe that, as a public charity,
it is our duty to make as much information public
as possible and, successful or not, to inform
our supporters of our efforts. This page is
where we'll post information on the status of
any grants that the Downtown Medicine Mound
Preservation Group has applied for. Status updates
will be posted periodically as information becomes
available.
July, 2007 : The DMMPG has
just applied for a cash grant from a local, private
foundation in the amount of $33,790.00 to cover
the costs of hiring a qualified preservation architect.
This is a crucial first step in our organizational
development while working to preserve these historic
buildings in a manner consistent with current practices
set forth in both State and Federal guidelines.
Collectively, our Board of Directors believes that
going forward without professional guidance would
be "penny
wise and pound foolish". (Update - 12/07 :
Grant Request Denied)
August, 2007 : The DMMPG applied
to Conoco-Phillips for a cash grant in excess of
$600,000.00 for operational funding through 2009.
This request has, so far, gone unanswered.
September, 2007 : The DMMPG has
made an inital application to Tourism
Cares for a $100,000.00 grant to finance capital
improvements to the Medicine Mound Museum. This
grant request is still pending. (Update - 12/07
: Grant Request Denied)
September, 2007 : The DMMPG has
applied for a "Google Grant" to provide
Internet advertising for our group. (Update - 11/07
