For Immediate Release
Chillicothe, Texas - What once was a small, privately held museum is emerging as an important part of local history, as the Medicine Mound Museum prepares to go public.
Executive Director
Myna Potts today announced the formation of the Downtown Medicine Mound
Preservation Group, a non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation of
rural Medicine Mound history.
"The formation of
this non-profit group has been a dream of mine for many years", Myna said.
"We've assembled a fine pool of talented Board Members from around the country
to guide us into the future while educating others about the past. We hope to
make the Medicine Mound Museum the focal point for rural history in this area,
and look forward to many exciting improvements to the facilities in the coming
months."
The Downtown
Medicine Mound Preservation Group is actively seeking official nonprofit status
from the IRS, and will soon unveil a professionally designed, interactive
website to the public.
Public Information
Officer John Bates states that the group will soon begin work to catalogue and
restore many of the old photos and artifacts in the Museum's collection, making
much of it available on the Internet. "We are really excited about this
project, which will bring the rural history of Medicine Mound alive to the
general public. In addition, we are making plans to restore and rehabilitate
the two remaining buildings in Medicine Mound to their former glory. We hope to
make a visit to the Museum an interactive, educational journey into the lives
of hard-working rural Americans."
Visitors to the
Medicine Mound Museum are by appointment each Saturday. Guests should contact
Myna Potts at (940) 852-5288 or (940) 839-4344 for directions and information.
